Greetings to you all in the Name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
This week we are going to look at what Jesus said about restoring
Christian Relationship when someone sins. This is written in the Gospel of
Matthew 18:15-20. Summary of the spoken words are as follows:
·
“If you brother sins against you, go to him and
show his fault. Do it privately and if he listens to you, you won your brother
back. But if he will not listen to you, take one or two other persons with you,
so that every accusation may be upheld by the testimony of the two or more witnesses.
And if he will not listen to them, then tell the whole thing to church, treat
him as tough he was pagan or a tax collector. (Matthew 18:15-17)
·
“What you prohibit on earth will be prohibited
in heaven, and what you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.
·
“whenever two of you on earth agree about anything
you pray for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For two or three
come together in my name, I am with them”
Discussion
In this scripture, it talks about restoring someone’s Christian
relationship with God as Jesus explained to his disciples. Jesus intended to
show us that if we notice someone commits sin and is guilty of such acts then
we as Christians we have a responsibility to reveal the sin to the person who
commits it and do not ignore it. We then help him to reconnect him/her to God.
If he or she sins against you, then you show him his/her
fault and you have to forgive him/her. Talk to him/her privately and if he/she
listen to you then you both agree and repent and pray to God in Jesus Name for
forgiveness.
If he does not listen to you then involve two or three other
people to talk to him/her and if this do not work out then refer to church to
deal with it. Knowing that you have done your part in showing the fault to the
one who sins.
So, we have the responsibility to forgive and show the fault
to our brother or sister so that his/her Christian relationship is restored on
earth and in Heaven too. If you forgive someone on earth, then your sin will be
forgiven in heaven too. If you restore someone’s relationship with God on earth,
then your relationship with God in heaven is also restored and when Jesus comes back in the Clouds of
Glory, you will go with him and maintain the Christian relationship with God in
Heaven.
May the Lord Bless His Word in our hearts now and
forever, Amen
