Jesus Feeds Five Thousand

Dear friends in our Lord Jesus. This week we are going to talk about Jesus feeding the five thousand people which is written in the Gospel of Matthew 14: 13-21.

Summary of the scriptures are :

  • Jesus went to  a lonely place by himself. The people heard about it and followed him. When he saw the crowd his heart was filled with pity for them and he healed their sick.
  • The disciples said, "it is already very late and this is lonely place, send the people away and let them go to the villages to buy food for themselves."
  • "They don't have to leave," answered Jesus. " You yourselves give them something to eat."
  • " All we have here are five loaves and two fish," they replied.
  • Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, looked up to heaven, gave thanks to God. He broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. Everyone ate and had enough. Twelve  baskets were   full of what was leftover.
  • Five thousand men ate, not including women and children.
  • The crowd that followed Jesus were the sick and the unfortunate ones. Jesus healed their sick. They had faith that if they go to Jesus then their sick will be healed and their faith were strengthened when Jesus healed their sick.
  • When they were hungry, Jesus fed them and more leftover food that filled 12 baskets.
  • There were little food available but Jesus thank God and made the food multiply to feed more than 5000 men and surplus of food filled 12 baskets.
  • Who ate those the leftover food in the 12 baskets? Jesus knew that there will be more people coming to him so he want the leftover food to be given to the people who will follow him later. So we count ourselves in this later group of people.
  • Our problems, worries, pain, sicknesses, we bring it to Jesus and he will take all of them away and heal our sicknesses and pain.
  • Whatever little we have, we give thanks to God in prayer and it is/will be more than enough for our needs.
  • If we are hungry and thirsty, we come to Jesus. There are still more than extra food for everyone. We will never go hungry or thirsty again if we follow Jesus. We follow Jesus and we will have life in its fullness and be with him forever. Amen.
